The Overlap Nobody Warns You About: House-Hunting and Nursery Applications

■ 「家が先か、保育所が先か」という問いを立ててみる
来年度から子どもをどこかに預けたいと考えているご家族にとって、この時期は二つのことが同時に動き始めます。一つは住む場所を決めること。もう一つは、認可保育所などへの申込です。
ここで少し立ち止まって考えてみると、「どちらを先に動かすか」という問いが出てきます。家を先に決めてから保育所を探すのか、通わせたい保育所の場所から逆算して住む場所を決めるのか。
■ The Question Worth Asking Early
For families hoping to enroll a child somewhere from the next school year, this season tends to bring two things moving at once: deciding where to live, and applying to licensed nurseries or childcare facilities. Thinking it through, the question becomes: which do you tackle first find the house and then look for childcare nearby, or identify where you want the child to go and then choose housing around that?
■ 保育所の申込には、住所が関わることがある
認可保育所への申込は、自治体が窓口になります。申込の時期や書類、締切は自治体ごとに異なるため、引越し先の自治体の窓口に確認するのが確実です。
注意が必要なのは、申込の条件として「住所」が絡んでくる場合があるという点です。新居の住所が申込に必要なのか、入所日までに転入予定であれば申込できるのか——この条件は自治体によって違います。ここを早めに確認しておかないと、申込期間が来たときに手が止まることがあります。
■ Your Address May Matter More Than You Expect
Nursery applications go through your local municipal office, and the timing, required documents, and deadlines vary by municipality. One thing worth checking early is whether your new address needs to be in place at the time of application, or whether a confirmed move-in plan is enough. This condition differs by area, and finding out too late can mean the application window closes before you're ready.
■ 2つの期間が重なる
家探しから引き渡しまでには、目安としておよそ2ヶ月半かかります。内覧・物件選びにおよそ1ヶ月、住宅ローンの事前審査に1週間ほど、契約から引き渡しまでにさらに1ヶ月ほど、という流れです。
この2ヶ月半と、保育所の申込期間を並べてみると、タイムラインが重なる部分が出てきます。申込の締切が先で、住所の確定が後になると、手続きが詰まる可能性があります。「保育所のことは家が決まってから」と後回しにしていると、申込期間そのものを逃す場合もあります。
■ Two Timelines, One Calendar
From starting to look at properties to receiving the keys takes roughly two and a half months about a month of viewing and narrowing down, a week or so for mortgage pre-approval, and another month from contract to handover. When you place that alongside the nursery application window, the two timelines can overlap in ways that catch families off guard. Treating the childcare application as something to handle after the house is settled can mean missing the application period entirely.
■ 「どちらが先か」より「どちらも同時に動かす」
実際のところ、家探しと保育所の情報収集は、どちらかを終わらせてからもう一方を始めるというより、並行して進めていくものです。住みたいエリアの保育所の状況を調べながら物件を見て回り、申込に必要な条件を自治体に確認しておく——この段取りが、後から振り返ると一番無理がなかった、という方が多いように思います。
■ Not "Which First" But "Both at Once"
In practice, house-hunting and childcare research tend to work better in parallel than in sequence. Looking at properties while also getting a feel for nursery availability in your target area, and checking application requirements with the local office early that combination tends to make the whole process feel less rushed, looking back.
